Cornwall got the 2008 season under way with their first championship round and BSMA qualifier at Pemburthy Farm, Fraddon on sunday, with almost 150 riders turning up at the revamped mid county track.
The 50cc Auto's saw the Roberts duo share the race wins, with Daniel clinching the first two, and Dan winning Race three. Jake Roebuck was in amongst the action and roared to third overall, and with several newcomers to the group little Todd Sawyer was first of the novice bibs coming in eighth overall.
Maximum man Josh Gilbert dominated the 65cc juniors, while Jack Roberts, Brandon Cooper and Jake Curtis-Stevens each led the rest of the field throughout the day, Freshly upgraded from the auto class Aidan Williams was riding well coming in seventh overall.
The SW85cc race group saw three different race winners, Jack Stevens, Jack Gribble, and Steven Gilbert took a race win each, Stevens claimed overall victory, Gribble second overall with Max Wills third. Youngster to the group Bill Gribble rode a blinder in race one, roaring to the front and challenging Stevens for the lead from start to finish.
In the BW85cc class a third, a second, and a race win gave freshly upgraded young Jack Blackburn first overall, the consistent Josh Bath claimed second spot. Bradley Maddever took the first two race wins, some bad luck saw Brad cross the finish line in race three in twelfth place dropping him back to third overall. Ross Deason, Craig Furse and Harry Mills Wakely swopped places all day for eighth ninth and tenth place points.
Guy Jacobs was untouchable in the first two senior races, Daniel Gilbert gave his husky two stroke all it had, coming in second, but race three saw a role reversal as Gilbert Borrowed a four stroke machine and took the race win with Jacob's in hot pursuit. Suzuki mounted Liam Curtis-Stevens secured third overall, Wayne Back was in on the action taking two thirds and fourth overall.
A full line up of AMX saw Michael Williams roar to victory with a three ride maximum score, Matthew Thomas scored three seconds and Lewis Woodford three thirds. With Sam Chapman recovering from a recent leg operation Al Chapman (Dad) left Sam in charge of the spares van, grabbed Sam's bike and headed off to the start line to do battle with club accountant Neville Powell, but Powell had it all figured out and after a good days racing the accountant finished nineteenth overall with the spares man twenty-fourth.
